EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine



You will have access to specialist facilities and laboratories across the University that are equipped with the latest technology.

Our facilities include

Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (iMBE)
iMBE is home to the largest academic facility in the world for the experimental functional simulation of artificial joint replacements (hip, knee spine) and all laboratories have ISO9001 quality management system accreditation. Facilities within the institute also include:
• Single station wear and friction simulators for assessing early invention therapies.
• Equipment for assessing the function of artificial heart valves.
• Several materials testing machines for determining biomechanics of tissue and bone.
• A dedicated high precision metrology laboratory.

School of Dentistry
We have dedicated microbiology, molecular biology, tissue culture, histology, materials science and biochemistry laboratories. We also have a dedicated bioengineering and biomaterials suite which accommodates our expanding activities in tissue engineering and stem cell biology. The School's imaging suite includes SEM, TEM and confocal scanning laser microscopy. Further information can be found on the School's facilities page.

Leeds Institute of Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Medicine (LIRMM)
Central to LIRMM's research facilities, is the NIHR funded Leeds Musculoskeletal Biomedical Research Unit's Imaging Centre, which has a research dedicated 3 Tesla MRI system with 32 receiver channels, rapid switching gradients and musculoskeletal imaging radiofrequency coils, fusion and 4D ultrasound and image processing facilities.
