Wear prediction for artificial hip joints
EPSRC
Supervisor: Professor Zhongmin Jin, Professor John Fisher

The work will focus on the development of computational models for wear prediction in artificial hip joints. The programme of work will be integrated with a separate EPSRC project on the lubrication modelling and the experimental simulator studies currently conducted in the Institute. This research mainly includes:
• Determination of wear factors as a function of lubrication regimes
• Development of kinematics/loading models for artificial hip implants
• Development of contact mechanics models for hip implants
• Development of lubrication-dependent wear models for hip implants
• Experimental validation and establishment of a lubrication-dependent wear model
