Optimising Knee Therapies annual conference 2021

This half-day on-line conference will showcase research conducted on the EPSRC Optimising Knee Therapies Programme grant, with keynote talks for clinical leaders and opportunities for small-group discussion on future directions. The conference will be attended by members of our advisory board, clinical, academic and industrial partners. All are welcome to attend; we particularly encourage anyone with an interest developing and evaluating knee interventions to join us and contribute to the discussions.

Keynote speakers:

Philip Conaghan - Deputy Director of the NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre; Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist for LTHT; NIHR Senior Investigator Emeritus

Mike McNicholas - Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Liverpool University Hospitals Broadgreen; President of the UK Biological Knee Society

Sanjeev Anand - Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Session 1: Cartilage and Bone

Presentations will outline the progress made on experimental cadaveric knee simulators, specimen-specific computational modelling methods, and parallel imaging work, and their applications to evaluate the biomechanical performance of new surgical interventions, including work on decellularised osteochondral scaffolds and self-assembling peptides for cartilage repair.

Session 2: Ligaments

We will showcase work on decellularised tissues for ligament reconstruction and associated testing approaches.

Session 3: Meniscus

Presentations will outline methods that are under development to evaluate meniscus replacement allografts including in vitro simulation and finite element modelling methods.

All details for registration, key note speakers, finalised programme and on the day house keeping will be found on the companion pages in the menu to the left.
