Mechanical engineers are involved in the design and manufacture of almost everything, and there are jobs for mechanical engineers in most areas of industry. As a mechanical engineer you could become involved in design, manufacture, research, development, management or marketing.
Medical engineering applies engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology for healthcare purposes. The field seeks to close the gap between engineering and medicine through multidisciplinary working – and engineering knowledge is also used to understand the body better, so that new and innovative tools can be developed for the medical community.
Medical engineering combines the design and problem-solving skills of engineering with medical and biological sciences to contribute to medical device solutions and interventions for a range of diseases and trauma.
