Susan Partridge engaged in discussion on imaging and computer modelled hip using touchscreen technology.

our research staff from the Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering attended the NIHR ‘Ok to Ask’ event on the 20th May 2014. This was a chance for our researchers to engage with patients at the Leeds Musculoskeletal Biomedical Research Unit (LMBRU) at Chapel Allerton.

A lot of the patients attending the event have already been involved in some way in clinical trials and research and enjoyed being able to share their own experiences and discuss the work being carried out at the iMBE.

Activities were used to highlight the research on-going within iMBE focusing on the joints, What’s in the box? activity: different artificial joint replacements were hidden in the box and visitors had to guess which joint they were for. Build a human knee, a twice-lift-sized human knee which could be taken apart and rebuilt. Touchscreen showing MRI, X Ray and computer modelled images of the hip, knee and spine.
