iMBE at YORNIGHT 2014

Date

On Friday the 26th of September, 4 researchers from the Institute of Medical & Biological Engineering took part to YORNIGHT, one of the 300 events across Europe hosting the European Researchers' Night.

Over 200 visitors, mainly families, came to our evening stand set in King's Manor within York's Museum Gardens. They had a chance to meet Frank, our cycling skeleton who is fitted with artificial hips and knee joints and chat about the pioneering research in medical devices and regenerative medicine undertaken at the University of Leeds.

Children and adults spent the evening discovering artificial joints, fitting the components together, exploring the different shapes and materials used and identifying what joint they replace. The stand also included several examples of decellularized tissues produced to replace heart valves, arteries or menisci.
